Mr. Gijsbertha completed his higher general secondary education in Curaçao and started employment with Shell Curaçao N.V. on March 1, 1973. He joined the Isla refinery in October 1985 and has occupied various positions such as, Senior Internal Auditor, Head Commercial / Contract Services, Manufacturing Appraisal and Process Costing administrator, Head Materials Finance, Head Materials Operations/Warehousing, Head Materials Procurement and Materials Superintendent. From 2008- 2016 Mr. Gijsbertha held the position of Public Relations Manager at the Isla refinery.
When it comes to his political career, Mr. Gijsbertha was Lieutenant Governor ( a.i. ) of Curacao from 2004-2006 and second term in 2010. In 2016 he became member of the Parliament of Curacao. From 2016 to 2017 he was the Minister of Finance and Sport (Cabinet Koeiman) and from 2017 to present he is the Minister of Finance (Cabinet Rhuggenaath). Now, he is also the Minister of Economic Development.
